At last, Literacy Centers designed specifically for Fifth Grade students that will help on their reading journey.

These centers coordinate with the 5th grade Journeys series published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt*. The centers can stand on their own and you do not have to be using this reading text book in order to use the centers in your classroom.

There are six literacy centers for each of the five weeks. Set 6 is for weeks 26-30. The literacy centers in this packet are designed to give your students time to practice the literacy skills and strategies that have been presented in class lessons. You do not have to use all six centers every week. Choose the centers that meet the needs of your students and your curriculum.

There are five weeks of centers in this set. Each week has six centers:

Read About It: independent reading, students write a reflection that focuses on the weekly reading skill
-Text and Graphic Features
-Fact and Opinion
-Conclusions and Generalizations
-Main Idea an Details

Chat About It: partner reading, students discuss the weekly reading comprehension strategy
-Analyze and Evaluate
-Infer and Predict

Listen to It: partner reading to practice fluency
-Phrasing: Pauses
-Adjust Rate to Purpose

Just a Word About It: independent work, focuses on word study skills
-Multiple Meaning Words
-Suffixes, -ness, -less, -ment
-Greek and Latin Roots, tele, photo, graph, meter, scrib, rupt, port, ject
-Word Origins

Be Right About It: independent work, focuses on grammar, and writing mechanics skills
-Possessive Nouns
-Titles and Abbreviations
-Commas in Sentences
-More Commas
-Other Punctuation (color and parentheses)

Write About It; independent work, focuses on writing, writing process and writing traits
Set 4 focus: Informative Writing
-Definition Paragraph
-Journal Entry
-Informational Essay (two weeks)
