Created as a way to spiral the Common Core Math Curriculum, these calendar pieces support students in practicing multiple concepts throughout the month. This month includes the concepts of finding equivalent fractions using models, finding relative sizes of fractions using a number line, and defining geometric figures based on attributes. Students will also use a graphic organizer to describe relative sizes of digits within a number: ie: the 7 in the tens place is a hundred times greater than the 7 in the tenths place. Students may complete these activities as independent work or collaborative learning opportunities during Math Workshop or Guided Math. Instructions for setting up student notebooks as well as graphic organizers and support posters needed are included. Using these calendar pieces will give students multiple opportunities for practice and increase the retention rate for these concepts. They will also help you have an easy and thoroughly planned way to keep multiple math concepts active in your classroom. From Julie Nelson of Nelson-Bonn LLC.
