Created as a way to spiral the Common Core Math Curriculum, these calendar pieces support students in practicing multiple concepts throughout the month. This month includes the concept of finding the volume of a rectilinear figure by creating models out of snap cubes and discovering how to break the figure into two separate prisms and then apply this to a figure with only numbers. Students will also practice order of operations with exponents and decimals and will convert weight measurements. Students may complete these activities as independent work or collaborative learning opportunities during Math Workshop or Guided Math. Instructions for setting up student notebooks as well as graphic organizers and support posters needed are included. Using these calendar pieces will give students multiple opportunities for practice and increase the retention rate for these concepts. They will also help you have an easy and thoroughly planned way to keep multiple math concepts active in your classroom. From Julie Nelson of Nelson-Bonn LLC.
