This is a combination of SEVEN owl-themed interactive notebooks that I have designed. If you would like an idea about what my unit notebooks consist of, please download the FREE Unit 1 notebook. If each notebook were purchased individually, the cost would be almost $15. Buying the bundle instead offers a savings of around $3!
Here are all the skills covered in this notebook:
-Common core unit one (WHOLE NUMBERS & ORDER OF OPERATIONS): order of operations, parenthesis/brackets/braces, exponents, multi-digit multiplication, multi-digit division, and powers of ten.
-Common core unit two (DECIMALS): place value, standard/expanded/word form, comparing decimals, rounding decimals, adding decimals and subtracting decimals.
-Common core unit three (MULTIPLYING/DIVIDING DECIMALS): multiplying decimals by whole numbers, multiplying decimals by decimals, dividing decimals by whole numbers, dividing whole numbers by decimals, and dividing decimals by decimals.
-Common core unit four (FRACTION OPERATIONS): converting improper fractions/mixed numbers, comparing fractions, adding/subtracting fractions with like denominators, adding/subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, multiplying fractions by whole numbers, multiplying fractions by fractions, dividing whole numbers by fractions, and dividing fractions by whole numbers.
-Common core unit five (GEOMETRY & THE COORDINATE PLANE): labeling coordinate plane, plotting points on coordinate grid, identifying coordinates of plotted points, following and graphing patterns/sequences, and graphing based on real-world scenarios.
-Common core unit six (TWO-DIMENSIONAL FIGURES): attributes of polygons, attributes of attributes of quadrilaterals, and classifying two-dimensional shapes in a hierarchy.
-Common core unit seven (VOLUME & MEASUREMENT): time conversion, metric length conversion, metric mass conversion, metric capacity conversion, customary length conversion, customary mass conversion, customary capacity conversion, standard measurements, line plots, and volume.
Here is what is included in this notebook:
-Student table of contents
-Unit cover page
-Listed Common Core standards covered in the unit
-154 vocabulary cards (13-36 per unit)
-66 interactive lessons with Essential Questions and standards (5-16 per unit)
-2 to 4 strategies per skill
-3 to 5 scaffolded practice problems per strategy
-27 open-ended questions (3-4 per unit)
This is an excellent tool to use in your classroom, especially if you aren't thrilled with how your textbook covers material! Students have a reference to anchor to all year long, and it also makes a great study-guide for end of the year tests. The step-by-step explanations can also be incredibly useful for parents.
While different units vary in length due to the amount of content, they each offer the same high-quality instructional material. I believe this will be an extremely valuable addition to the math instruction in any classroom.
***Please note that on the first Order of Operations lesson, two of the problems work out to negative numbers. The example problem and #2 on the scaffolded practice problems to the side. I work these out to negatives with my students, especially higher groups, to expose them to the advanced content and as challenge problems. You can change the - signs to + signs in each problem and the answers will work out to positive numbers. Furthermore, it has been brought to my attention that the division on pages 17-19 include two 5-digit divisor problems, whereas the Common Core only calls for three and four digit divisors (#1 & #4 on the scaffolded practice problems on each page). Again, I use these with my students, but you are of course able to cross them off or change the numbers in your classroom.
If you happen to find an error in this file, please feel free to bring it to my attention, however remember that I am a human perfectly capable of making mistakes and am a tired teacher on most days too, just like you :)
Have a blessed day!
