These challenges were designed to display the students' mastery of several objectives at once while having fun at the same time! The challenges are done throughout the year, so they provide a year's worth of assessment activities.
These challenges have been developed and improved over a period of several years in my fifth-grade music classroom. It is a joy to watch the students' enthusiasm as they complete these projects while using higher-level thinking skills and cooperative learning.
Even if your fifth-grade students have not done activities like this before, the first three challenges will still be very easy for them to do. Click on the preview to see the first two challenges and the teacher directions.
If your school is like my school, paper is a precious commodity, so I have included a Paper Saver student sheet at the end of the file. If you want to do all five challenges but only use one sheet of paper for each student, you can use this option.
This Paper Saver sheet is also a great option if you are required to produce assessment portfolios.
The Kindergarten Music Composition Project is available for free at my store, You Can Do This Music with Laura Lea.
