Do your students seem to forget what they learned last year or what you've taught them at the beginning of the year when test time comes? A complete math program takes a balance of many components including Daily Spiral Review as well as Daily Problem Solving. This product was written to use for Spiral Review, Numeracy Practice, and Problem Solving in 5th Grade.
This book was written to use for Spiral Review in the 5th Grade. This is the 1st of 4 parts and has enough work to last 6 Weeks and is designed to begin around the 10th week of school, but can be worked on at anytime during the year. Many teachers also use it as an intervention tool.
Some of the skills are reviewing 4th grade skills or scaffolding skills to get ready for the 5th grade standards. Hopefully, this will help fill in any gaps that may exist with the implementation of the new TEKS.
It should be used in conjunction with the Number of the Day and Problem of the Day—which are included in this product. The next page explains a suggested schedule for implementing each part in 5th Grade.
It was created to be a “Bellwork” assignment, but there are lots of other ways to use it in a classroom.
The problems are not of a HIGH difficulty level and are not in test format They are intended to help give a QUICK review of the basic skills needed.
I like to check the problems with the students shortly after they have completed them, so they get the quick feedback.
SCORE SHEET: You can track students’ progress for intervention and RTI using the “Score Sheet” that is found at the end of this document. There is now a Score Sheet for the “Problem of the Day” and “Number of the Day” that can be copied on the back of the Spiral Review Score Sheet.
