Product Description
Since our writing curriculum has changed in Louisiana to passage based, I went through my school's library to find books/magazines so that I could make up some of these writing prompts.

This product is a list of passage based writing prompts to use with 5th graders. It DOES NOT include any passages because of copywriting laws, but I do have where the stories come from. The Scholastic magazine is old, so I don't know how easy it will be to find it, but only one poetry prompt comes from it.

This product contains 61 writing prompts. Type of prompts: Personal Narrative (7), Narrative (5), Descriptive (8), Comic Strip (1), Poetry (6), Flyer (1), Persuasive (9), Song (1), Expository (22), Advertisement (1)

This list of prompts tells you the story title, type of story (e.g., fiction), page numbers, type of prompt (e.g., narrative), the writing prompt itself, and the corresponding CCSS/Louisiana GLE.

The following books/magazines are used for the prompts in this product:

Book: Ferryboat Ride! by Anne Rockwell

Book: Scott Foresman, My Sidewalks on Reading Street, Level E, Volume 1 (Units 1-3) and Volume 2 (Units 4-6)

Magazines: Scholastic Storyworks Magazine,
Vol. 15, No. 2---Oct 2007
