REVISED! Place value is the foundation on which 5th grade math understanding is built. These task cards will give your students an opportunity to apply their place value knowledge and help you identify those students who may need some extra support.
These task cards can be used in several ways. The cards could be put in a math center. They could become a small group lesson or even a whole class game of what I call "Pass A Problem".
Place a task card problem on each of your students' desks. When students have solved the problem, they give a thumbs up. When all students are ready to move, the students then walk to the next desk and are ready to solve a different problem. When students are back at their own desk, the walk about is finished. Now students are ready to discuss and check their answers.
This activity has 24 different place value problems. Teachers can pick and choose which ones they want to use. This activity could also have students travel with a partner and together solve the problem, so not all questions need to be used. A teacher answer sheet and student recording sheet is also included.
This activity addresses 5.NBT.1, 5.NBT.2, 5NBT.3, 5NBT.4
