NEW for the summer of 2016 as requested! This lesson bundle covers the 5th Grade NGSS Next Generation Science Standards associated with Space Systems and Earth's Place in the Universe. A Fill-In Notes bundle requires the students to fill in missing terms, complete diagrams, collect data, graph, and answer questions as they follow the PowerPoint slideshow. A classwork / homework / assessment is also provided that chronologically follows the Fill-In Notes and PowerPoint slideshow. One PowerPoint Review Game concludes the unit for a fantastic review. Together, you'll have everything you need to run a fantastic unit of NGSS Science.
Space Systems, Earth's Place in the Universe, Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions, Engineering Design NGSS
This unit covers standards associated with Space Systems, and Earth's place in the Universe. This includes a three part 2,000 slide Interactive PowerPoint full of exciting hands-on activities with instructions, critical notes, video links, questions, and much more. A Fill-In Notes bundle of 12 pages, and homework/classwork bundle of 9 pages chronologically follows the entire slideshow. Two review games (170 slides each) conclude this unit. The activities are easy to run and effective. In Part 4 (A) Students learn the basics of our solar system, order of the planets, important vocabulary. A really neat set of slides has your students graph a Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram (HR) comparing a stars absolute magnitude to color. After learning more about stars students create a sun dial and map out and graph the length of shadows throughout the day. Part 4 (B) explores the axial tilt of the earth, seasons, the relationship of the earth and moon, phases of the moon, tides, and more. Lots of step by step drawings, activities, and awesome videos are spread throughout. Part 4 (C) Has your students explore the exciting world of rocketry. At the end of this Part students create their own water powered rocket from plastic soda bottles. Students create a prototype and test various amounts of fuel (water), and other variables to get the highest launch. This is a great end of the year activity and always a lot of fun
5.EES1-1 Describe the differences in the apparent brightness of the sun compared to other stars is due to their relative distances from the Earth.
5.EES1-2 Create a graph that displays patterns of daily changes in the length and the direction of shadows, day and night, and the seasonal appearance of stars in the sky.
3.5ETS1-1 Create a design problem reflecting a need that includes special criteria for success and include materials, time, or cost.
3.5ETS1-2 Create and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem. Base these on how well each is likely to meet certain criteria of the problem.
3.5ETS1-3 Create a fair test with variables that are controlled. Include some failure points and identify aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved.
5.PS2-1 Describe that the gravitational force exerted by Earth on an object is directed downward
