A really fun project at the end has your students invent a new brand of soda for scientists.

5PS1-1 Develop a model to describe that matter is made of particles that are very small and can’t be seen.

5PS1-2 Measure and graph quantities to show evidence that the type of change that occurs when heating, cooling, or mixing substances, the total weight of matter is conserved.

5PS1-3 Make observations and record measurements to identify materials based on their properties.

5PS1-4 Conduct an investigation with the mixing of two or more substances that will results in new substances.

3.5ETS1-3 Create a fair test with variables that are controlled.

Part 2 Matter and Energy in Organisms and Ecosystems, From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes, Energy NGSS

NGSS Matter and Energy In Organisms and Ecosystems Unit

Part 2 covers standards associated with Ecosystems, Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics. This includes a two part 1,500 slide Interactive PowerPoint full of exciting hands-on activities with instructions, critical notes, video links, questions, and much more. A Fill-In Notes bundle of 8 pages, and homework/classwork bundle of 12 pages chronologically follows the entire slideshow. Another review game concludes this part of the lesson bundle. These easy to run simulations help reinforce ideas and always a lot of fun. Part 2 (B) explores the flow of energy through the ecosystem with step by drawings, questions, videos, and more.

5.PS3-1 Use models to describe that energy in animals’ food (used for body repair, growth, motion, and to maintain body warmth) was once energy from the sun.

5.LS1-1 Describe that plants get the materials they need for growth chiefly from air and water.

5.LS2-1 Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment. Air, water, decomposed materials in soil is changed by plants into matter that is food.

5.ESS2-1 Show with examples ways the geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and/or atmosphere interact.

Part 3 Earth’s Systems, Earth and Human Activity NGSS

NGSS Earth's Systems Unit

Part 3 Addresses Earth Systems and Human Activity such as the Biosphere and Geosphere and how the two are interconnected. It also investigates the abundance and distribution of fresh water on the planet. Students This includes a three part 2,000 slide Interactive PowerPoint full of exciting hands-on activities with instructions, critical notes, video links, questions, and much more. A Fill-In Notes bundle of 15 pages, and homework/classwork bundle of 11 pages chronologically follows the entire slideshow. The activities are easy to run and effective. In Part 3 (A) Students learn about the levels of biological organization and life spheres such as the biosphere and geosphere. They get to see how these spheres are interconnected. Tons of visuals and the Fill-In Notes make learning these challenging concepts easy. The outdoor simulations help reinforce ideas and are always a lot of fun. Part 3 (B) examines the distribution of water on planet earth. A neat activity has the teacher break down where earth's water is located from a 5 gallon bucket. It's amazing when the students see that only a fraction of a drop of water from the bucket is usable freshwater. This part also explores drought, groundwater, and groundwater pollution. Readings, graphing and more are included. This part also includes a fantastic project that has your students learn about hydroelectric dams and human activity. A company is planning on damming a local river and students are assigned roles within the town. Each students researches, writes a short persuasive speech, creates their character, and dresses up for the town meeting. Amazing visuals, readings, and fun activities make this one a student favorite. Part 3 (C) Earth the Water Planet, explores the roles of the oceans (hydrosphere) on the planets weather and climate. A 150 slide review game concludes Part 3 for a fantastic review.

5.ESS2-2 Show and graph the amounts and percentages of available water and where it is distributed on earth.

5.ESS3-1 Research and discuss in a group about ways individual communities use science ideas to protect the Earth’s resources and environment.

5.ESS2-1 Create a model using examples to describe ways the life spheres: geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and/or atmosphere interact.
