New to NGSS?

Looking for high quality engaging lessons and materials for your science class?

This will be a full year of science materials based on the NGSS for 5th grade science.

The preview file has links to each product in the bundle to give you a better idea of what each lesson looks like as well as which products will be coming this year.

This special bundle was designed to save you money! It is a NGSS-only version of the Everything 5th Grade Science Mega Bundle which includes EVERYTHING I have ever created (and will ever create in the future) for 5th grade science. Some teachers were looking just for the lesson plans and materials that are based on NGSS, and didn’t need all of the extras. So, this new NGSS-only bundle is designed to save money by only including the lessons and materials for NGSS standards in 5th grade science. If you don't want all the science class extras, this bundle is for you! At about half the cost, it gets you what you need to get your NGSS standards covered for the year.

Here is how the lesson sets are designed for a year in science:

Each complete lesson set mentioned in this planning guide is designed to be used for about 2 weeks depending on class time, student ability, and completion of all materials included.

I spend a week on unit tests for review, reteach, testing, and going over graded tests (a good secondary review and reteach opportunity). A Unit Test for each group of standards is linked in this preview file (planning tool) just as a suggestion for additional purchase. Unit Tests are included in the Everything 5th Grade Science Mega Bundle which includes Texas standards (TEKS) and NGSS, so these tests may have a few questions that do not pertain to the NGSS lessons. That is why they are not included.

The last month or more of school is spent on a cumulative review and an End of the Year STEM unit. The STEM unit is key to preventing behavior issues those last three weeks of school. These two items are both included in the bundle.

Describe and graph the amounts of salt water and fresh water in various reservoirs to provide evidence about the distribution of water on Earth. Assessment is limited to oceans, lakes, rivers, glaciers, ground water, and polar ice caps, and does not include the atmosphere.
Make observations and measurements to identify materials based on their properties. Examples of materials to be identified could include baking soda and other powders, metals, minerals, and liquids. Examples of properties could include color, hardness, reflectivity, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, response to magnetic forces, and solubility; density is not intended as an identifiable property. Assessment does not include density or distinguishing mass and weight.
Conduct an investigation to determine whether the mixing of two or more substances results in new substances.
Represent data in graphical displays to reveal patterns of daily changes in length and direction of shadows, day and night, and the seasonal appearance of some stars in the night sky. Examples of patterns could include the position and motion of Earth with respect to the sun and selected stars that are visible only in particular months. Assessment does not include causes of seasons.
Support an argument that differences in the apparent brightness of the sun compared to other stars is due to their relative distances from Earth. Assessment is limited to relative distances, not sizes, of stars. Assessment does not include other factors that affect apparent brightness (such as stellar masses, age, stage).
