This file includes all 7 of my updated social studies unit tests and completed study guides. These tests and study guides have been realigned and updated to match the new Georgia Standards of Excellence. I developed these tests and study guides over the past nine years teaching 5th grade students and coaching teachers in social studies instruction. I currently teach at a Title I school and have had tremendous success using these tests. Obviously, the tests themselves do not solely account for student success, but any student who can successfully master the material on these tests and explain their reasoning, truly has a deep understanding of the 5th grade Georgia Social Studies standards. The tests include a variety of question types including multiple choice, short answer, matching, multiple answer and essay (the types of questions vary with each test).
These tests are based specifically on the content that is covered in the new 5th Grade Georgia Standards of Excellence. The content may be applicable to other states' standards as well, but some questions will be very specific to Georgia's standards. The preview version lists the specific standards that are covered on each test.

In the past I had my students complete study guides. I realized that my struggling students who needed the most help, were simply not studying. I created a completed study guide for each unit just to see how it would impact student performance. The results were phenomenal. Parents loved the completed study guides, because they knew exactly what they needed to study with their child. Kids performed higher, because even my very unorganized students now had a full set of notes to study from. In addition, it freed up class time, to work on more authentic learning activities.
These study guides are also fantastic for new teachers or teachers new to this content, because it provides a summary of what should be taught in regards to each standard. The study guides are not meant to be exhaustive. They provides a brief overview of what should be covered with each standard. These study guides are also a great resource for test preparation at the end of the year.
