My 7th unit of the year covers 5th grade TN SS Standards 5.07, 5.08, and 5.09 and is called "The Spanish-American War, Immigration, and Progressive Eras." I have created two pages of interactive notebook vocabulary tabs for these 3 standards. Students place these in their "History Highlights" which is our interactive notebook's name. These foldables are scaled to fit a composition notebook. The tabs help develop self-study habits. The pictures provide visuals. Making students responsible for only the vocabulary term saves time. A word bank is provided on each page.
The following vocabulary terms are included: Ellis Island, Immigration, Imperialism, Rough Riders, Spanish-American War, USS Maine, Yellow Journalism, 18th Amendment, Angel Island, Child Labor, Progressive Era, Prohibition, Reform, and Temperance Movement.
Here is the link that reviews the Unit 7 Vocabulary.
Analyze the causes, course, and consequences of the Spanish-American War, including:
Describe the challenges of the journey and process for successful entry into the U.S. through Ellis Island and Angel Island, and examine the role of immigrants in the development of the U.S.
Analyze the major goals, struggles, and achievements of the Progressive Era, including: Prohibition (18th Amendment), *women’s suffrage (*19th Amendment), and the lack of child labor laws.
*Women's suffrage and the 19th Amendment will be covered in a future unit.
