No need to wait until January, start right away as soon as the school year begins. Let your kids practice these problems over and over again or mix and match these problems with others that I have.
Use these problems as a bell-ringer activity. They will give your students practice, build vocabulary, cover finding averages, let students complete a chart, teach them new skills, review skills already taught, and give them confidence that they can solve multi-step problems.
As their teacher, one of the best things you can do is to model how to solve multi-step problems. Let students complete one problem a day. This will help them get used to solving multi-step problems and help them become more successful at testing time.
