This Weather and Climate poster is designed to aide students in understanding that weather and climate are two separate measures. Weather is the measure of atmospheric conditions on a day to day basis whereas climate is the weather in a certain area over a number of years.
The Texas TEK (5.8A) is listed within the poster inlcuding if the TEK is a Readiness or Supporting Standard. The verb is in red and the nouns are in blue. Key vocabulary is in green.
Students should be read the TEK before the lesson begins. The teacher and the students should discuss the TEK; the students need to understand that the verb is what they have to do once the teacher is finished with the lesson. The nouns include, but are not limited to, the vocabulary contained within the lesson.
Once I created the poster, I used a poster maker to blow-up the original size (8.5 x 11) to a true poster size document. I hung the Weather and Climate poster at the front of my class and used this method as the ENGAGE part of my lesson. I allowed students to use the poster as a "cheat" throughout the lesson. Once I was finished with the unit, I took the Weather and climate poster down to begin a new unit.
