5th and 6th grade's writing standards are very similar. They can use similar writing rubrics. These rubrics are standard based, and written according to what is expected from them in each skill. Each rubric is broken into 4 categories: Exceed, Proficient, Developing/basic, and Needs Improvement. The category of "Proficient" is what the standard conveys as expected on grade level. The category of "Exceeds" is above what is grade level expected. The points are 4, 3, 2, and 1. There is also a grade scale that goes with all rubrics. It is a 32 point grading scale. To receive the 32 points, the student would have to exceed in all 8 skills. They would receive an 88% if they receive all 3's which is proficient (grade level expectations). The writings include: Narratives, book report, paragraph writing, argumentative, opinion, and information writing.
