Thank you for looking at my Community Helper Emergent Readers! I love using little emergent readers with my little ones to help build their word identification and fluency . This is a fun way for your little people to learn the different skills necessary to master the Common Core Standards.

How to use this emergent reader packet

As we begin our Community Helper Unit I begin with the little people by brainstorming different community helpers. Once we have our list I choice different members of our community I feel we need to learn more about. For this packet I’m sharing with you 6 different community helpers. They include: police officers, fire fighters, dentists, doctors, carpenters and vets

When introducing each book I always begin by sharing the pictures with my little ones, then I share the color copy by reading the informational text to them.

Next, we read it together page by page and each child has their own copy of the text. As we read the book together we highlight the high frequency words together and you could have your little ones color the pictures.

Finally, after reading different books you could have discussions on how one community helper is similar or different from another. For example it would be very easy to compare/contrast the doctor and vet or even the dentist. Also, the fire fighter and police officers, etc.
