This is an amazing product!!! Why didn't I think of this before? This product includes 6 colorful, discussion cards that allows students to choose a role to discuss during Informational Text Literature Circles or small group instruction. Your studens will love it and you will get to observe your students reach a deep understanding of INFORMATIONAL TEXT, independently. Just stand back and enjoy listening to amazing discussions. The children will naturally refer to the text.
The students are asked to either identify the text structure, text features, summarize, ask open-ended questions, make text-to text, text-to-self, text-to-world connections, or identify prefixes, base words, and suffixes as they independently read high-interest informational text.
I wanted to create an activity that will keep my students engaged and independently reading informational text, so I came up with specific roles that would allow them to apply in a fun and meaningful way a few of the benchmarks they learned this year. All you need are 6 copies of any given informational text. I subscribe to Super Science, Scholastic News, and Ranger Rick; however, you can find FREE articles on readwritethink.org or readworks.org. Have each group switch articles or magazines every day, so by the end of the week, they will all have read 4 articles in total. Woo Hoo!!!
You can print the card on card stock paper and laminate them. Cut each card separately because they are not perfectly aligned.
Reading Benchmarks Students will apply:
Identify Prefixes, Base Words, and Suffixes
Identify Text Structure
Identify Text Features
Make Text-to Text, Text-to-Self-Text-to-World Connections
Ask Open-ended Questions
