6 Six Traits of Writing Posters and Goal Setting Cards

Set student writing goals easily with this 6 Traits of Writing poster and skill card bulletin board. Completely updated with new look and fonts. You get 2 versions (that are identical) to choose from to best suit your classroom theme - chalkboard and polka dot. Each is 78 pages and includes an editable skill card template so you can make your own cards the way YOU like them worded.

This bulletin board set is a wonderful and useful way to display the writing skills that you have taught to your students.

I use this pack in a similar was to the reading CAFE menu. As I teach each skill, I add the skill card under the appropriate heading on the bulletin board. Later, during writing conferences, I attach a laminated photo of my students beside the specific skill they are working on. Alternatively, you could just place a name or photo under the heading, not the skill.

The skill cards also serve as good prompts for mini-lesson ideas. I printed all the cards at the start of the year and when I was planning, I referred to them to get ideas. The board also serves as a reminder of Traits that need more focus, either because they have less cards under them or because many students have a goal under that heading.

The VOICES headings are:

V: Voice - 10 skill cards

O: Organization - 18 skill cards (also comes with Australian spelling - Organisation)

I: Ideas - 12 skill cards

C: Conventions - 21 skill cards

E: Excellent Word Choice - 18 skill cards

S: Sentence Fluency - 10 skill cards

I have included an EDITABLE template of the skill cards so you can personalize the cards to the skills and language you use when teaching writing. PLEASE see information in the preview about the fonts I used (which are available to purchase on TpT from another seller) if you want the cards to look exactly the same as the ones I've included.

I have included 2 different heading posters for you to choose from. The first is a full page version with the VOICE and description. The second version comes with a large circle with the letter (e.g. V) and a smaller card that describes the trait.
