The challenge of a six-word memoir is for students to summarize their lives in exactly six French words – no more, no less. They will illustrate their memoir using images and graphic design elements in Google Slides or Google Drawing, or they can write and illustrate their memoir on paper. The result is a stunning representation of the student in the target language.
This project is wonderful as a get-to-know-you project at the beginning of the year for students who have studied French before, or as a review activity during the last days of school (or both!). It provides students with an opportunity to think carefully about their language and express themselves in a fun and interesting way, and also is great for relationship building both between the student and the teacher and between the students themselves. It helps to lower the affective filter and allow students to feel seen for who they are.
