Designed to meet the conceptual demands of the new Common Core Standards, this preview contains one sample of the 60+ engaging games and activities that will focus students on translating between the following representations of the adding numbers within 20:
1. Standard numeral representation
2. Ten frame representation
3. The Sum
4. Related Fact Family: the commutative property
5. Number sentence
The packet consists of 10 different number boards (see sample picture below), 10 matching board templates, 13 games and activities for each board and supporting worksheets and templates.
Each board is to be cut into 25 different cards containing five different additions, with each addition represented in 5 ways. The cards are then placed in a zip-lock bag ready to be used by one student. Each board and activity comes in a page of their own for easy handling.
The Games and Activities range from finding all the matching representations for each number, to generating equivalent but different representations of the numbers 1 to 10. The activities and games were designed so that students independently or in pairs with little assistance from the teachers.
Concepts addressed: One to one correspondence, counting on, number representation, equivalence, number patterns, greater and less than, pattern recognition, writing the numbers 1 to 10, reading the numbers 1 to 10, translation of the numbers one to ten into a variety of other representations, ordering.
