This is a PDF* with a set of sixty creative writing prompts about The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The prompts or writing ideas are aligned to Common Core Writing Anchor Standards 1,2, and 3. Each prompt is done in a visually appealing way and gets its own page/slide so that it can be projected in front of a class.
A word to teachers about how to use the prompts:
Look for the black dot(s) in the top right corner to tell you which standard(s) applies to each prompt. Many of the prompts do have more than one standard attached to them since they can be approached in different ways. Teachers may need to clarify for their students what approach they should be taking.
Common Core Writing Standards that are covered in these prompts:
- Writing Anchor Standard 1: Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.
- Writing Anchor Standard 2: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.
- Writing Anchor Standard 3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
Note: if you have purchased other sets of prompts from me, some of these prompts do overlap with some of those in that a number of them have been adapted specifically to work for The Great Gatsby.
Please let me know if you have any questions at all.
*They are in PDF format because converting to PowerPoint considerably alters the formatting. If you'd like to get them in the original Keynote file, please let me know, although it seems Keynote users are few and far between.
