It is very important to know and teach the 6+1 Writing traits to help students develop writing skills. I compiled, added color, and organized a few great resources I found on-line into one document for easy reference. There is also a catchy song that I made up to the tune of head, shoulders, knees and toes to help students and teachers memorize the 6+1 writing traits. The pages in this word document download answer questions:
What are the six traits?
What do you look for within each trait?
What are some of the teaching tools I can use to teach each trait? How do students assess themselves (to know if they are teaching the trait correctly)?
How do teachers assess students?
I do not take credit for the information listed. The 6+1 Traits model grew out of the work of a number of research projects, including a major endeavor by the Northwest Regional Education Laboratory in Portland Oregon. -www.plattscsd.org (where most of the information came from)
There are some really nice examples of Task Cards to help students learn the difference between the traits and to assess themselves available within teachers pay teachers. I am working on my own and will upload when they are finished.
