Product Description
COMMON CORE MATH LESSONS: GRADE 6 – Expressions and Equations

This product is the second in our Common Core Math Series for sixth grade.

6.EE-1 Writing and Evaluation Expressions

Students are often unclear about the ideas of expressions and equations. What is the difference? How do I write an expression? When do I use an equal sign?

The Common Core focus for grade 6 includes an emphasis on developing algebraic thinking through a focus on expressions and equations.

We at Portals to Learning are dedicated to making math understandable for students. We are also dedicated to helping students and our fellow teachers to better understand the Common Core Standards in Mathematics.

In this product, we first “unpack” the first standard in Expressions and Equations for Grade 6 (6.EE-1) and explore the meaning of the terms and language included in this standard. We then provide a systematic series of practice sheets (Answer Sheets included) to help students develop their understanding and application of mathematics as it relates to this standard.

This product assumes students know and understand the order of operations, a critical prerequisite to sixth grade work in the area of expressions and equations.

If you would like to review the Order of Operations with your students before using this packet, be sure to get our first packet which specifically addresses this topic.

Order of Operations.

Other products in our store include our third grade Fraction series and our sets of Amazing Math Mazes, geared toward early math skills, but fun at any age.
