PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This dividing fractions bundle includes 2 activities – Dividing Whole Numbers by Fractions and Dividing Fractions by Whole Numbers. Both tasks are matching activities and both include area model cards. Description for both are listed below:

Dividing Whole Numbers by Fractions with Area Models

Dividing Whole Numbers by Fractions- Students can use these engaging task cards to divide whole numbers by fractions. Visualizing concepts in math is just as important as visualizing when you read. Either way, the visualizing enhances comprehension.
This activity includes cards showing an equation, the quotient, and the area model that visually represents the solution. Students match these cards, then write the equations on the recording sheet that is included. A worksheet is also part of this package so that students can begin to practice creating their own area models for these types of equations.
Also included is a description of how to create and understand these area models if you have not seen these before.
If you don’t wish to use the area cards, I have organized the cards so that all of the area cards are together so that you can just eliminate them when you print.
This activity encourages students to work independently to practice this important math skill. It is designed to keep students engaged as it makes a great center activity or be used with a small guided math group. Students really enjoy this motivating way to practice!

Dividing Fractions by Whole Numbers – A Matching Activity

Dividing fractions by whole numbers is shown visually in this matching activity using area rectangles. Students match the expressions with the visual representations, then with the correct quotients. A formative assessment sheet is included and answer keys are available. Included in this packet is information about using visual representations to show multiplication of fractions by whole numbers.
I offer this activity as a center area to be used by 1 or 2 students or a small group of students in a guided math lesson with the teacher. This type of practice seems to have more appeal in my classroom than completing worksheets.
