Communicating our objectives with our students can be difficult if we do not translate our standards in a way that they understand. For my argument writing unit, I created mini-posters that translated the argument writing standards into "I CAN" statements. Each statement and correlating standard is on one 8 x 11" paper. Simple black and white coloring (because I do not have a colored printer at work). Some standards have been broken into multiple "I CAN" statements.
