Performance tasks are a great way for students to showcase their knowledge of multiple mathematical concepts as well as mathematical practices. This task is great as SBAC or PARCC practice, or also effective as a summative assessment as well.
This performance task incorporates the skill of solving for ratios, converting percentages, writing and solving equations, creating charts and graphs, and finally justifying mathematical answers and decisions.
Students are given a situation in which they must decide how to spend $5,000 for their school based on the votes of the class, prices, budget, and capacity of activities. Students will be challenged at a high DOK level to push themselves to use the mathematical concepts to solve a real world problem.
A student packet, as well as scoring rubric and examples are all included.
