This handout includes 10 pairs of equivalent ratios. The ratios in each pair are equivalent to each other, and so students must simplify them to see that. The idea is for students to work in pairs, but also be responsible for their own work. Students can work individually on their own problem as well as work collaboratively if their is a discrepancy between their answers.

Cut along the dotted line to separate the two columns to give each pair of students.

Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. For example, “The ratio of wings to beaks in the bird house at the zoo was 2:1, because for every 2 wings there was 1 beak.” “For every vote candidate A received, candidate C received nearly three votes.”
