Do your students spend to much time on their phones? Are they thinking about other things when you are trying to communicate with them? This interactive activity will help them learn how to be present and in the moment. It introduces the concept of mindfulness through experiencing the senses in a new way. Through a 5 senses snack activity and writing for reflection students will identify and experience how to practice mindfulness with their 5 senses.
This lesson is the first of three in a unit on mindfulness. The next suggested lesson, "Practicing Mindfulness", pushes this topic further by providing students with the opportunity to practice and make a plan for being more mindful.
1. Teacher Guide with differentiation support.
2. Writing for reflection.
3. SEL Asset Map.
4. 5 senses snack form.
By the end of this lesson students will be able to:
1. Review and practice five senses.
2. Practice being mindful by using the senses.
3. Reflect on their mindfulness experiences.
