Description

Howdy,

UPDATE: The download now has 3 files: an editable Word doc, a link to an editable Google doc, and a PDF.

Are you using Open Up Resources 6th Grade Units to teach math? Here are vocabulary cards for 6th Grade Unit 7. I used the terminology used in the unit and compared this list to the words contained in the Smarted Balanced item specs (SBAC). This will help prepare your students for the content and vocabulary on the summative test. Based on the released items these also work very well in preparations for the PARCC test as well.

I have saved you lots of time by creating all of the images related to inequalities, graphing, or integers. There are 63 words in this product that tie together the Open up Ed math curriculum to the Smarter Summative test. These are formatted for quick printing and will fit in most pocket charts. You will have a word wall ready in no time! This is a Word document and you are free to edit and make necessary changes to teach your precious children.

I have also included a PDF version that is not editable, but will open nicely on a Chromebook or other machine that does not have Microsoft Word.

Note: When I write these vocabulary pages, I do repeat some words from previous units as they are appropriate. This way I do not have to remember which words to recycle and can store each unit individually.

Also, please know that the font on some of the definitions is not very big. I tried to be brief, mathematically correct, and mathematically complete. I use these definitions more than the students, so that I can be consistent in how I phrase ideas.

Write an inequality of the form ๐˜น > ๐˜ค or ๐˜น < ๐˜ค to represent a constraint or condition in a real-world or mathematical problem. Recognize that inequalities of the form ๐˜น > ๐˜ค or ๐˜น < ๐˜ค have infinitely many solutions; represent solutions of such inequalities on number line diagrams.
Use variables to represent numbers and write expressions when solving a real-world or mathematical problem; understand that a variable can represent an unknown number, or, depending on the purpose at hand, any number in a specified set.
Understand solving an equation or inequality as a process of answering a question: which values from a specified set, if any, make the equation or inequality true? Use substitution to determine whether a given number in a specified set makes an equation or inequality true.
Identify parts of an expression using mathematical terms (sum, term, product, factor, quotient, coefficient); view one or more parts of an expression as a single entity. For example, describe the expression 2 (8 + 7) as a product of two factors; view (8 + 7) as both a single entity and a sum of two terms.
Solve real-world and mathematical problems by graphing points in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane. Include use of coordinates and absolute value to find distances between points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate.
