This grammar activity is a FUN way to get your students motivated to WANT to write stronger and longer sentences while also reinforcing the parts of speech. Each sentence is required to have 7 words in it; hence, 7-Up Sentences. Each part of speech is labeled as one of the following: articles, possessive pronouns, adjectives, nouns (people, places, things, and animals), adverbs, verbs, and prepositions. I have also included the definition of direct and indirect objects for your advanced students.
Each part of speech is put into a laminated pocket holder and students choose one card from each of the pockets to build their 7-Up sentence. After pulling the cards, the sentences developed will definitely be silly. The sillier the better....in the eyes of a child. However, the silly sentence will continue to reinforce parts of speech. The packet contains over 200 sentence combinations!
I have included colored copies and black and white copies. I have also included blank pocket cards for you to create your own word list. A recording sheet has been added so that your students can record their 7-Up sentences for you to see!
It can be used independently, with partners, and/or in small groups! My students LOVE all of my "pull-a-pocket" games! Hope yours does, too!
(This will meet all grade-level common core grammatical skills).
