7.4A Rate of Change Notes
This resource can also be used as a scaffold to struggling students that need a step up before attempting 8.4C as Pre-Algebra students.
These guided notes, provide scaffolded learning and information processing for finding the rate of change from all of the required representations in 7th grade math TEKS for linear equations.
ELL students excel when using this resources due to the use of color to connect representations and the format of the slope ratio. The visual cues set within the resource will assist struggling learners to make connections, and grow their own depth of understanding by connecting the multiple representations of rate of change.
Ideas for Use:
Guide students through creating a table from each representation. Once they are confident in table building, return to the calculation of change of output and change of input. Then write the ratios together and simplify.
Guide students through creating the table of values and immediately find the change in y and change in x values. Write the ratios and simplify.
To increase depth of knowledge, have students create a table of values, write the ratios, and then have them graph the points from the table. Then use the ratio to illustrate the changes in y-values should match and can be visually recognized. Repeat the process for the change in x-values.
This resource is the single page of notes. It is part of a larger unit package (coming soon) that can be purchased in my store.
