The first few minutes of class provide a natural opportunity to engage students in accessing their prior knowledge with their own experiences on which to build. This can be difficult in chemistry.
These 77 short activities are designed to build on students' own experiences and backgrounds on which to tie in important chemistry topics. These activities invite students to understand the development of the periodic table by connecting it to their own kitchens; discuss properties of water through connecting them to belly flops; and relating atoms to the solar system.
Additional notes to teachers, including links to any manipulatives and additional discussion questions are found in the presenter notes with each slide.
