7.7A Y-Intercept Scaffolded Notes Page
Included: One page notes printable with all representations tested in 7th grade Texas Math TEKS.
This resource can also be used as a scaffold to struggling students that need a step up before attempting 8.5I as Pre-Algebra students.
This notes page is used as the introduction to determining the y-intercept in the slope intercept equation test in TEKS 7.7A.
This notes page allows students to make connections across representations to determine a y-intercept. By adding sentences that make student generate the verbal description of the initial value, each child will create at least 2 representations from each example problem given.
ELL students excel when using this resources due to the use of color to connect representations and the format of the b value in the equation, as well as the y-intercept point of (0,b). The visual cues set within the resource will assist struggling learners to make connections, and grow their own depth of understanding by connecting the multiple representations of y-intercept.
Ideas for Use:
Guide students through identifying initial value from each representation. Once they are confident that they can identify the y-intercept, return to the writing of the point and the b value for each representation. Then write the sentences that help them make contextual meaning out of the representations.
Guide students through identifying initial value from each representation and immediately write the point and the b value for each representation. Then write the sentences that help them make contextual meaning out of the representations.
To increase depth of knowledge, have students create a table of values, and then have them graph the points from the table, including the y-intercept.
This resource is the one-page printable for students and an answer key. It is part of a larger unit package (coming soon) that can be purchased in my store.
