This 15 question assessment can be used as a pre-test for 8th grade students to see how much they remember about solving equations from 7th grade. Or as an assessment/quiz for 7th graders to identify how much they learned after a unit on equations.
It starts of with one-step equations, moves on to two-step equations, then has a few equations involving combing like terms and finally ends with a few questions involving the use of distributive property AND combining like terms. This format makes it easy for you to identify where students are struggling instead of analyzing the assessment question by question. You can just see that the student did well up until question 9 (which is where combining like terms equations begin) and you can identify that he/she needs practice with combining like terms.
This format makes it easy to remediate students because at a glance you are able to see which students need help with which types of problems by simply seeing what number they were able to complete up to.
