This is a station activity that assesses the students' knowledge of scale drawings through real world application, cooperative learning and different learning styles. I have included a formal lesson plan along with all the materials and directions needed for each station.
The students’ will be completing a task rotation as their culminating assessment for scale drawings. They will be working in groups of 4 and they will have 18 minutes at each station.
Station #1: The students will complete NYS questions (from assessments and modules) on scale drawings.
Station #2: Students will have pictures that are multiple sizes. They will also have frames that are multiple sizes. They have to figure out how much to enlarge or reduce a picture in order for it to fit in the frame.
Station#3: The Students will have a map in front of them and the computer to use Mapquest.com. The students will be asked to find the scale factor the map is using based on the distance they measure on the map and the actual distance, in miles, computer by Mapquest.com
Student #4: Students will be creating a basketball court for a gummy bear using an NBA court as their original measurements.
