These vocabulary choice boards can be assigned at the beginning of each unit to give students a better understanding of the vocabulary. Knowledge of math vocabulary is an essential component of learning mathematics. In order to communicate math thinking clearly and coherently students need to learn and use appropriate math vocabulary. If we want students to use the language of mathematics precisely it is important that that we model appropriate language in context, both verbally and visually. These choice boards will help you accomplish that goal with your students.
Included are choice boards for the YEAR for the following units.
The Number System (Rational numbers)
Ratios and Proportions
Expressions and Equations
Geometry and Measurement
Statistics and Probability
Each choice board is in the form of a tic tac toe board. Students will pick three activities in a row to complete for all vocabulary words. Some activities include creating a rap or song to explain vocabulary, making a crossword puzzle or word search, and making Frayer models for each word.
In addition, there is a blank choice board where you can insert your own vocabulary words. Also included are Frayer model templates and word search template.
