This lesson shows students how to accurately solve equations with variables on both sides of the equals. Conceptual understanding of why variables must be either removed or added to both sides of the equals is shown by using a scale example and algebra tiles. Common errors are also discussed to help avoid common misconceptions about multi-step equations compared to variable on both sides equations.
Please see the preview file to understand all that this lesson entails. I have used these slides for many years in the classroom and the outcome has been extremely successful compared to traditional methods.
I have also uploaded a guided notes file to be used with this PowerPoint lesson.
