Challenge students to go deeper with their understanding of cubes and cube roots by not only evaluating them but by modeling them with a diagram. To truly master the common core standard, students must not only know that the cube root of 8 is 2 but be able to model it and explain the meaning behind the math.
COOPERATIVE LEARNING IDEA: Begin with the first 4 problems. Divide students into teams of 4. Each student in the team is assigned a different problem to complete. After sufficient work time, students move into "expert" groups. Assign each corner of your room a different number. Students move to the corner associated with the problem they worked on. They then select a partner and compare their responses. Students then move back to their original teams. Beginning with number 1, one student at a time stands up and teaches their teammates the problem they worked on. Everyone else in the team completes the problem following the "expert's" instruction.
Repeat the activity with problems 4-8.
