This Expert Corner activity is perfect for differentiating to the varying ability levels represented in your classroom. Organize groups so that each team has a lower student and a higher student. Number students such that the lower students are 1s and higher students are 4s. The first problem is simpler than the others while the last problem is more challenging. In this activity, students work with a partner on becoming an expert on a problem, and then they teach it to a small group of peers.
All problems require students to determine how many times faster one Star Wars object is than another, which keeps students engaged and matches common core standard 8.EE.3.
