Students explore finding the unit rate of graphs with this fascinating activity inspired from Harry Potter!! They use the cooperative learning structure "Solve 'n Pass" to create tables and figure out together the cost per pound of different wizard candies. They even get to make up their own wizard candy (or choose one if they know them!) and create a graph and table to represent its cost.
**Note to Harry Potter fans: Although the wizard world surely does not use American dollars, I use them here so as not to confuse our students who do not have such a strong grasp on finding unit rates. Three quarters of a sickle may leave students hopelessly confused, while most students can understand three quarters of a dollar as 75 cents. Apologize to your Harry-Potter-diehard students for me!**
