This station can be a group game or indepdent interactive activity to practice what students have learned about working with exponents - positive, negative, multiplying and dividing. 2 options for play:1. One of more students at a time. Spread the cards out on the desk, face up. Students sort through the cards placing them into groups of equivalent expressions. Groups will have between 3 and 5 cards. There are 4 groups. Check answers on the answer key. 2. Two or more students at a time. Arrange the cards face down like memory. Take turns turning over 2 cards at a time to find equivalent expressions. There will be 2 cards left at the end that do not match. Extension: Look at all of the pairs of equivalent expressions. Combine any that can be combine, and find which groups the two leftover cards belong with. Check Your answers on the answer key. Promotes group discussions (if not done independently) as sudents work together to group exponent expressions and check each others work. This can be part of a station rotation for newly learned material or can be used as a spiral review activity.
