Swag Man or Agent Mustache: who can defeat more bad guys?? Engage eighth graders in solving this contextual problem that is 100% aligned to the common core standard 8.F.2. Students must determine the rate of change (slope) in each function and connect it to the overall context. They will eventually come to the realization that the problem is not as simplistic as it seems, as the answer depends on the time frame.
Cooperative learning idea: There are 5 questions students analyze on this problem. Print out only one copy of this paper per team of 4-5 students. Student 1 starts with the paper and the rest of the team helps that student to answer question one. The paper is then passed to student 2 and so on.
