In this high-interest, engaging problem, students must analyze a function represented by an equation and another function represented by a table. They must be able to compare the rates of change, the y-intercepts, and connect each back to the context of the problem. Students discover that even though Swag Man is moving at a faster rate, Groovy Gus has a big enough head start that he beats Swag Man to their destination.
At the end of this problem, students are challenged to revise one of the functions to change the outcome.
