This is an exploration task on the concept of Comparing the Volumes of Cylinders.
This is a 2 page team exploration task. In this task students will take turns as "Team Mathematician". The team will discuss and make a prediction of the cylinder volumes in order from least to greatest. Each student will measure a given cylinder and give the measurements to the team. The team will calculate the volume. The team will put the cylinder volumes in the correct order from least to greatest. They will discuss and compare their predictions and results.
Note: Needed for this task are a set of four different colored paper cylinders for each team.
*** My "Team Tasks" are created to be completed in Teams of four. Each student is a team member: Team Member (A), Team Member (B), Team Member (C), and Team Member (D). Each team member is required to participate regularly throughout the "Team Task" as Team Mathematician. My cooperative learning "Team Tasks" require the students to be actively involved throughout the entire "Team Task". The Role of "Team Mathematician" alternates throughout the "Team Task". My "Team Tasks" are designed to elicit mathematical discourse within the teams.
