Product Description
These mini-lessons help students with Common Core or LAFS Reading: Literature 8th grade standards RL7 and RL9. This LOW PREP resource uses the "model-guide-practice" research-based teaching strategy! Each lesson includes suggestions for differentiation, collaborative learning, extension, and a table of contents linked to corresponding pages within the documents.

NOTE: Because of the way the state of Florida adapted their standards from the CCSS, these lessons ARE appropriate for the standards LAFS.8.RL.3.7 and LAFS.8.RL.3.9.

OR, save over 25% by purchasing this CIM as part of my mega bundle that includes ALL 17 RL.8 and RI.8 CIM lessons!

8th Grade Common Core Practice ALL 17 CIMs Bundle

Included are the CIMs for RL.8.7and RL.8.9.

The preview includes the preview for both CIMs as well.

The lessons follow an "I do, "We do," "You do" model of instruction. Each lesson has at least 1 question for the given standard. The lessons contain a teacher script for the "I do" and "We do" lessons to help walk students through the cognitive process of determining the correct answer.

The questions can be used as multiple choice or short/extended response questions.

The texts used are all appropriate for 8th-grade students according to Lexile's Grade Bands.

• CIM 1 (RL7):

♦Lesson 1: This lesson uses an excerpt from the preface of Pygmalion, by George Bernard Shaw, which has an approximate Lexile ® of 650 and is paired with the same section of the film (part of the beginning credits/screens) from the 1938 film version of Pygmalion.

♦Lesson 2: This lesson uses an excerpt from the beginning of Act 1 of Pygmalion, by George Bernard Shaw, which has an approximate Lexile ® of 890 and is paired with the same section of the film from the 1938 film version of Pygmalion.

♦Lesson 3: This lesson uses an excerpt from Act 1 of Pygmalion, by George Bernard Shaw, which has an approximate Lexile ® of 270 (although this is deceptively low since the dialect is so stylized and the vocabulary is quite complex – but appropriately accessible for 8th graders) and is paired with the same section of the film from the 1938 film version of Pygmalion.

In this CIM, the 3 lessons should take about 10 minutes over the course of 5 days. Lesson 1 should take only about 10 minutes, but Lesson 2 and Lesson 3 have slightly longer texts, so they will take 15-20 minutes each. They can be done together on a single day (although that is NOT the intent of the product) or on 5 separate days.

• CIM 2 (RL9):

♦Lesson 1: This lesson uses the text, “Soldier,” by Meredith S. Moody, which has an approximate Lexile ® of 900.

♦Lesson 2: This lesson uses the text, “The Princess and the Prisoner,” by Meredith S. Moody, which has an approximate Lexile ® of 860.

♦Lesson 3: This lesson uses the short story, “My Summer Vacation,” by Meredith S. Moody, which has an approximate Lexile ® of 720.

Because this resource uses self-authored texts, in the preview, I have included the first 500 words from each text so you can determine if they meet your needs/standards.

Note: Lexile® is not affiliated with and does not endorse this resource.

Each CIM consists of 3 separate files: the teacher version (with script), student version without answer choices (open-response), and student version with answer choices (multiple-choice). Student versions may be printed, copied, and distributed as necessary for the purchasing teacher's classroom.

All the CIMs are in .pdf format. Please email me at madeyemoodyproductions@yahoo.com if the product seems damaged, if you think part of it is missing, or if you cannot open the file and I will do my best to fix the problem.
