This 2- to 3-day lesson has students exploring the Five Geographical Regions of Georgia based on standard SS8G1a, b, and c.
In the first part of the lesson, students answer questions and color & label maps to understand Georgia's location in the nation and region as well as understand the important physical features in the state.
In the second part of the lesson, students will complete a graphic organizer on the regions recording information on the location, climate, natural resources, and economic contribution to the state. Students can use their own personal technology or other sources to complete these two sections.
The third part of the lesson is where students get to apply what they've learned about the Five Geographical Regions. Loosely framed as a mystery lesson, students are given an apocalyptic scenario in the state of Georgia and must answer the question: "Which region of Georgia is most likely to survive this apocalyptic scenario?" based on the factors of region, climate, natural resources, etc.
The final product that students create to present their solution is up to you but some great past presentations have included posters, PowerPoint, "survival guides", and Prezis!
