This is a concept-based unit that is aligned to Common Core State Standards. It contains CCSS Literacy Standards, Conceptual Understandings, Essential Questions, an outline of possible formative assessments, and a list of resources. I created this unit as the summative assessment for a course I took about concept-based instruction. I implemented the unit in August/September of 2013, and it was highly successful. The concept of identity really resonates with middle school students, which made it highly engaging for students. The summative assessment for this unit is available in a separate document.
