This is an in-class Mechanics, Usage, and Grammar Unit (link to Utah State Common Core) that is due at the end of the period or can be turned in before the bell rings next class period. Students must receive 7 out of 10 points to complete this assignment. If they do not reach 70%, they are required to redo the assignment. Follow all of the assignment, as the spelling unit is included at the bottom of the page. They are to write either the spelling words five times on the back or combine the sentences into a correct paragraph (topic sentence first, supporting sentences, conclusion). Students will be reading these words in the short story "The Third Wish," by Joan Aiken, and over the year and are required to make flash cards for each word. First Term the students will be required to submit four writings on myaccess.com using the spelling words. The first two writings will be a narrative (a story) that includes an exposition (setting, character descriptions, and an introduction to a conflict--either internal or external). ALL SPELLING WORDS/VOCABULARY ARE TO BE UNDERLINED IN STORY AND A WRITTEN ROUGH DRAFT WILL BE BROUGHT TO CLASS AND EDITED BY THEMSELVES OR PEERS BEFORE SUBMITTING TO MYACCESS!
