This video is a demonstration of my 8th grade math sort that focuses on simplifying algebraic expressions by combining like terms. The resource shown in the video is available for purchase at the following link.
8th Grade Math Sort - Simplifying Algebraic Expressions (Combining Like Terms)
*The video only shows 3 of the groupings/words in the sort. The full resource includes 16 total groupings (80 total problems).
In this activity, students sort problems into groups based on their answers. Once sorted, the Problem Cards can be flipped over to create a word that needs to be unscrambled. Who doesn't want to find the answers when the result is a "rowdy, sassy, macho, sloth!" This activity works great as a math center! All of the problems are similar in difficulty to the problem shown below. No terms with exponents are included in this sort.
Example: -3h + 7 - 5h - 10
The product includes 80 Problem Cards that each have a letter on the back. It also includes 16 Answer Cards to sort the problems underneath. Each Answer Card has five corresponding Problem Cards, which can then be flipped over and unscrambled.
Instructions for printing, instructions for use, and an answer key are included!
